About us
History
IJ-Events is an event venue situated in the heart of creative and vibrant NDSM in Amsterdam Noord. In the early 50’s the building was constructed to serve as an assembly hall and canteen for the shipyard builders. For years this area was a crucial point in Dutch shipbuilding history.
The location
Alongside a rich history and an ideal location, the building is also situated by the waterside with a breathtaking view over the IJ River and Amsterdam Centrum.
Currently the impressive industrial venue of 600m2 has been transformed to an event space. An extraordinary industrial feel & look within a transparent building with ample daylight and a remarkable terrace on the sunny side, allows IJ-Events to tailor to any type of request! Restaurant café
The IJ-kantine
With the new plans for NDSM developing quickly, it was decided to keep the historical building as an industrial and cultural monument. It was fully renovated to preserve the rough steel look and since 2005 is home to Restaurant Café de IJ-Kantine on the first floor.
De IJ-kantine is a contemporary styled restaurant café. Every day the doors open at 9 am for coffee and breakfast. Later on a delicious lunch and dinner is served. There are two entresols in the restaurant. The lounge area with the fireplace is located here as well as the two meeting rooms. The atmospheric rooms are, apart from meetings, also used for private drinks and dinners. From every seat in the restaurant, you can enjoy the beautiful view looking out over the harbor of Amsterdam, the water of the IJ and the remarkable bar on the north side of the restaurant.
